calibration vs personal preference

Is your Kuro calibrated to the oppo? There are Blu-ray and DVD calibration discs that will help you get the best picture from the two. Until your setup is calibrated, you can only guess as to what the right settings should be.

Personal preference is another matter. Some people prefer a more vivid picture, while others prefer more saturation or contrast. My preference is "none of the above". I want the most accurate picture that my display and source can give me. What's on the disc is what I want to see (tied to the capabilities of the source/display, of course) -- no extra color, no extra brightness, no over sharpening, etc. In other words, I don't season the presentation. That's the cook's (director's) job.
