You said that "I tried converting that with a free program to MPEG format, but the DVD player wouldn't read that either!". Are you sure that the DVD player you are using is compatible with the DVD format (+R or -R) that you are burning? Some DVD players won't read +R and some won't read -R. If you're burning to an incompatible DVD format, that may be the problem. Most DVD players made today will read either format, but you didn't say what DVD player you were using. You may want to try the DVD you created on one or two other players, just to be sure.

If you're using +R discs, there's a way to set the "book-type/bit-setting" to -ROM and the disc will look like a regular movie DVD to the DVD player. If you're using -R and your DVD player isn't compatible, there's nothing you can do to get around the incompatibility.
