Advice sought about Sony video processing

I've been using a DVDO Edge video processor with DirecTV HD-DVR and Oppo BDP-93 sources to a Sony VPL-50 projector. I think the Edge may color the sound of CDs and SACDs and wont pass DSD at all. Do I really need the Edge? In another setup, a DirecTV HD-DVR outputs directly to a Sony 46XBR8, and the video is spectacular with HD program material. That leads me to wonder how good the video processing in the VPL-50 projector might be. Of course, the BDP-93 is said to do SOTA video processing internally, but I have no idea what's might be in the DirecTV HD-DVR box. Advice sought.
