soap opera effect

The "soap opera effect" is caused by the motion-smoothing feature on LCD or LED sets. The effect can be reduced or completely turned off. Many Samsung sets also have a split-screen "demo" setting that lets you compare the image with and without the feature.

If you are seeing Samsung (or other-brand) TV sets with too-vivid colors, chances are they are poorly calibrated. Get a calibration disc and you'll be much happier with the results.
