You need to pay attention to the specs. Todays plasma sets use far less energy than sets of the past. For instance, look at the Sharp LC46LE830U (a 46"). It uses 180W when powered on. The Panasonic TC-P50ST30 (50") uses 106W when on, despite being a larger picture. Sonys use less power than the Sharp models, but consumption is still about the same as the plasmas. The days of the plasma TV using a lot of power and giving off a lot of heat has been over for a while. You can thank California for forcing the efficiency rating of todays TVs.
