Watched a Cnet Video that said use Component Video cables

I just bought my first BluRay player and HDMI cable after a lot of research including the above video. Had a quick look thru these archives and other places on the pros and cons and it seems to me that HDMI upscaling older DVDs to 1040 trumps all?

Am I missing some First Principle?
