Need help from old BluRay hands

My new LG player returns to the beginning when I press STOP, instead of the dialog I'm used to seeing, "press twice to.."

There's a function called Marker with no mention in the instructions which simply say to pausebthe movie, press Pause!

If I want to turn off for awhile but return to the same place, what to do? Also, on Pause, the Sumbitch creeps forwardvas much as 30 seconds.
