I'm skeptical that Blu-ray players are going to be as well-supported as standalone media players, when it comes to updates and fixes. My Blu-ray player has some media player features, but not a single firmware update in over a year. The Western Digital WDTV Live has had numerous official firmware updates, and there's B-Rad's "alternative" WDLXTV firmware as well. Staples in Canada is advertising the WDTV Live for $89.93.

When it's time to get another Blu-ray player, I'll look for those playing features that make life easier. My last DVD player got a lot of things right: remembers the disc position even after ejecting, and nearly perfect rewind and single-frame.
