Progressive scan - DVD or TV?

199.33.129.241

I'm confused about this subject.
I noticed there are TV's which are capable of progressive scan (line
doubling, 3:2 pulldown, etc) and of course, there are DVD players
which do this too. The low-end Pioneer doesn't do 3:2, but the better
Toshiba does it all. Some TV's just do line doubling, some do 3:2 as well.

So where do I need it the most for watching DVD's? If I were to buy the better Toshiba DVD player that did progressive scan and 3:2 pulldown, do I need a TV that does the same? Or can I get by with a non-progressive TV (or 'lesser' progressive TV).

I looked at the Sony press release here:
http://64.35.93.160/pressrelease/166

It says their new anticipated XBR450 will do 3:2 pulldown (while the current XBR400 does not).

If I get a DVD player that does that, do I need this feature in the TV? If not, when what does 3:2 pulldown in a TV do for you as compared to a DVD player with the same capability?

So many questions,...... any answers?

Thanks.
Robert
