'A Coffee In Berlin': A day in the life of a German slacker . . .
Posted by Billy Wonka on May 18, 2019 at 17:31:05:
Niko Fischer is having a bad day. First thing, his girlfriend breaks up with him, then he meets his dad (the lawyer) who cuts his monthly stipend off for attending law school (which he hasn't attended in over a year), He's already lost his drivers license and things aren't looking up.
Niko (Tom Schilling) is dying for a cup of coffee. He wanders Berlin running into people from his past and meeting oddball types as well. That evening, he meets a man who has a touching and ominous story to tell.
Schilling does a great job as the aimless young man trying to find his path. This is a "personal" film loaded with irony, giggles, but touching in its own way.
wonks: 3 out of 5 for being well acted and written, compelling story
wanks: 2 out of 5 for so many bad circumstances and lack of finality
