Most unforgivable and egregious modern Oscar acting award debacles?

Two loom largest: disrespecting Willem Dafoe's great performance in "The Florida Project" in favor of... Sam Rockwell in that Ebbing, Missouri melodrama? That's just nuts.
Brazil's national treasure, Fernanda Montenegro's ("Central Station") loss to Gwyneth Paltrow's paltry ("Shakespeare in Love"). Another crazy decision. Montenegro's effort equals any in modern film; her skills have been honed through decades of theater work. Simply put, a cruel, arbitrary, and unfathomable slight.
