And yes, we enjoyed it too. Of course, as music majors, Ms. CfL and I were already familiar with the actual sound recordings of some of the arias which Madame Jenkins "captivated" her audiences, but we thought that the movie's point of view of the whole situation was credible (if not always what we would have expected, based on other writings we've read about her). They did a good job of keeping things on the edge between the actual bathos of her performances and the sympathy we have for her when we encounter the derision of many of her audience members for her inexpert singing, which nevertheless arose from her genuine musical enthusiasm. Yeah - it's a good flick.
