'Split Second': Ouch, Al Gore . . .

Posted by Billy Wonka on February 15, 2021 at 14:57:19:

Rutger Hauer plays a psycho cop who works in London in this spoofy retread of 'Blade Runner'.

This film was made in 1992 and has a preface as the film opens:

(I paraphrase)

London 2008. The city has just experienced forty days and nights of rain and the city is largely underwater due to climate warming.

I rolled.

Hauer wears the combat-strength raincoat and boots during the film. The streets are covered with water and all their vehicles are jacked-up Jeeps or fan boats. I sat there confused wondering how seriously they were taking the 1992 mindset? The film, spoofy as it is, isn't worth seeing but it is notable for its portrayal of the coming world in 2008.
