'Outrage - The Way of the Yakuza': Good Nippon Crime

Posted by Billy Wonka on August 22, 2025 at 15:51:49:

Takeshi Kitano (also known as Beat Takeshi) writes, directs, and acts in what is arguably the best crime films Japan has to offer. His mixture of humor and gratuitous violence keeps you wondering as to what is happening next while giggling about what just happened. Filled with irony, Kitano never fails to deliver on Yakuza crime.

Several times, a perp will tell the victim: "You know you are dealing with the Yakuza?" Yeah, that explains everything and makes it okay.

'Outrage' is a complex story of revenge born out of confusion and cascading offenses by minor players. Beat ends up being the unwilling fixer.

This film has its violence and guttural, growling mob bosses in abundance. A good Amazon confection.
