RE: Orson Welles' opinion of de Sica
Posted by Gee LP on July 8, 2007 at 19:28:20:
Funny you should mention Orson Welles in connection with a work by de Sica...when he saw "Shoeshine" after it was released in the United States, he said, "In handling a camera, I feel I have no peer. But what de Sica can do, I can't do...the camera disappeared, the screen disappeared, it was just life." Welles went on to call "Shoeshine" "the best film I have ever seen."
