Perhaps.....

Point is that I have known men who are gay, men who are effeminate and straight, guys and women who have lived together but are not sexually active. The film had lots of sub-text, but nothing was - to me - actively spelt out.

In terms of his motivations I see venal behavior around me, whether this is in peoples willingness to trample on their colleagues to get up the greasy pole, or their grasping after things at the expense of relationships, their children and broader society, or indeed their willingness to support criminals in order to boost their own careers!

Recognising that such things exist does not mean that I have to approve of them. My battle is to try not to allow it to twist me - but I still despise it. Fortunately I know many people who have got their priorities properly ordered - at least to my way of thinking!

I found Capote's behavior, as portrayed, disturbing. My sympathies were with the townsfolk he befriended. I had no empathy for Capote as his breakdown was what, in my opinion, he richly deserved; but I did not enjoy the journey as portrayed in the film.

Innocent? I wish, but I am battling to get there.
