IZO: Samurai Slasher Film from Hell.....

Posted by mr grits on December 10, 2007 at 16:22:52:

Izo's over the top execution at the beginning of the film is enough to send you packing. It seems Iz was trained as a Samurai and liked killing so much he couldn't stop. He was captured by his own master, speared to death, then condemned to become an un-killable spirit in human form still filled with an unquenchable blood lust. (Izo is a real-life Samurai from the early 1800's who was executed as shown.)

Izo bobs and weaves in and out of time warps laying waste to all in his path and looking more demon-like as time progresses. There is a diverse mixture of images edited into the film ranging from childbirth to Nazi Germany and a rich mixture of color, costume, and character actors.

This is a Takashi Miike film with a very high doses of "abstract" that includes a Japanese acid rock, folk singer performing in several scenes.

You like Miike, you might like this. Let's not be queasy.
