The Proposition

Posted by Mike K on June 11, 2008 at 10:16:43:

Watched this last night, finally. The acting, script, direction, story
line, sets, locations, and suchlike are all A+. Nary a single screwup
did I detect. Peckinpah and other directors of great westerns would be/
should be proud, and perhaps humbled even, by the job these folks did.
I could not take my eyes off the screen the whole time. It's pitch
perfect.

However, there's a huge problem with this film, which fortunately is
mostly fixable, and should be fixed. It's this: the music sucks, it's
too loud and distracting, and it's often very difficult to hear the
dialog. The music should either be ditched completely and replaced with
something better, or at least have it's volume severely decreased; and
the volume level of the dialog should be brought louder a good bit.
I found myself alternately decreasing and increasing the volume of the
tv on which I watched.

Overall I'll give this one a B+ with the inherent problems noted
above, but fix them and this is a solid A+ movie. It's better in many
ways than many of the classic great films. I plan to watch it a couple
more times.

Mike
