Pineapple Express- disappointment

Posted by tunenut on August 9, 2008 at 09:41:56:

I have come to look forward to whatever Judd Apatow decides to produce- he has a talented repertory of actors, there has been sharp writing, and some funny smart movies like Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

And the previews looked OK. The director is an indie director, and I saw Snow Angels and thought it was a fine ultra-depressed indie film. In his interviews, he talked about how he really also loved trash movies- that should have been a warning.

It started out OK. The star, Seth Rogen, is an interesting character, and his drug dealer, soon to be buddy, is also interesting. There are some funny scenes.

But somewhere around the halfway mark, this turns into a really dumb action movie. Explosions, fights and car chases. As an action movie, it is not much. The comedy and relationships are put on the back burner. It gets kind of dull.

Not my cup of tea.
