It's one of the most sublime...

...movie musicals ever made - the dance numbers are transcendant. And it had the perfect casting of Astaire and Rogers - his natural elegance and her moxy made a powerful combination. This movie represented the best in film musicals and was the culmination of years of evolution from musical/comedy theater on stage.

These folks were all experienced pros, who worked like dogs to make it all look effortless.

Set in a fantasy world of refinement and carefree prosperity that depression audiences could enjoy at least vicariously, Top Hat struck all the right notes (pun intended) - I know I still wish I could be swept off my feet by Astaire and dance my way to happiness.
