I never pay more than £5 for a bottle myself, but if I didn't enjoy that £5 wine as much as I do I'd certainly be prepared to pay more, and if I tasted a glass of £100 a bottle wine which was significantly better then I might well treat myself to a bottle.

If somebody did say it was a waste of time spending more than £5 on a bottle I'd say that for him, that was probably the case, just as if someone says it's a waste of time spending more than £200 on a pair of speakers, for them this would also be the case.
