I disagree. I, like many others, can fully appreciate more 'serious' films which are emotionally involving, challenging and thought provoking, but does this mean my educated taste cannot then enjoy a 'popcorn' film in a totally different way?
For me no, even though with every film I can find fault and with Avatar and of course I will have found the story as predictable as you and the dialogue 2-dimensional (if not the picture).
"My brain did not let the magic work on this film because the effect were to crude, but on some it did, and they are the lucky one".
It's not magic Patrick - it's a case of seeing the glass as half full instead of half empty, and not letting the faults detract from the bigger picture.
