I haven't decided on a single "best" film, but here's some of the best films I saw in 2009. If I had to choose just one today I'd say The White Ribbon. Several top foreign films have yet to make their way to my Landmark Arts Thetaer e.g. Summer Hours. And I missed Inglorious Basterds...sorry.

The Hurt Locker
Moon
A Serious Man
The White Ribbon

I also enjoyed Star Trek (fave popcorn movie) Up, Coraline and Ponyo.
