"Eroica" features two of the best short films I've seen and both brilliant commentaries on WWIi you've not seen before.
But I digress......
The "Man" in question is an obstinate and demanding old conductor who makes life hell for his assistants and who refuses to obey the commands of his Communist bosses to improve "efficiency." One evening, his body is discovered under circumstances which make it appear he accidentally was killed as he attempted to sabotage a train in retribution for his forced retirement. You will not soon forget the character of the conductor, brilliantly portrayed by a master. Munk knows how to build tension and the scenes--- none of them "faked" of men actually working on a running engine are not easily forgotten.
I don't know why you guys snub E. European films: some of them are as good as film gets!
This is a gem from a very talented director who, if not for a tragic and early death, would be very well known. As it is, he left several terrific films of which this and "Eroica" are prime examples.
