"35 Shots of Rum" - another delight from Claire Denis

Posted by Victor Khomenko on April 23, 2010 at 06:42:10:

Denis is most definitely one of the best modern directors, and she drives that message hard with 35 Shots, which builds upon her other masterworks (Friday Night jumps to mind most immediately) and provides an even deeper and more poignant psychological study.

She dispenses with most external elements, leaving just enough to place her heroes in time and location - concentrating instead on what is truly important - their inner worlds.

The film is insightful, melancholic, and very serious at the same time. Done in the best tradition of the finest European cinema, something that is largely gone today.

Highly recommended.
