Life is hard in the West Bank, but the two friends do what young people do -

- they live it.

Until one day a Fat Man shows up. He's got a message - "they" have decided the two guys will blow themselves up tomorrow. Fat Man says he is incredibly proud of them, and this is great honor.

For some reason the Fat Man does not feel like bestowing that honor upon himself. Others will do just fine. The Fat Man loves good food and good night sleep.

The other leader, call him Skinny but Very Bitter - also doesn't feel any particular urge to blow his ass up. He is much more at home giving the two guys their instructions, all the while keeping a VERY concerned face... OK, OK, I get it - he IS concerned!

The two guys are bathed, they are given their last meal and the bombs are strapped to their bodies. They are now on their way to Israel.

"Paradise Now" is not an easy film to watch... it is outright painful. Painful is the mother's face - she doesn't yet know, but she can feel it. Painful is the final goodbye to girlfriend. Painful is Said's internal struggle. There is also disgustingly ridiculous... the Fat Man explaining the two guys what to expect after the explosion... he is irate: "Oh, you are such a bore! You'll get the usual... the usual!"

Recommended.
