"Hey pal, don't be a sucker... get this book on film noir."

Posted by tinear on May 15, 2011 at 11:14:58:

"Film Noir," by Silver and Ward, indeed is the bible of noir. The short intro is entertaining and very informative, and the capsule reviews by an assortment of critics and pedants are terrific. You'll learn a lot and waste a lot less time on the fourth-rate films. Here's a sample of the writing, an excerpt from the review: "Decoy's" opening shot of hands being washed in a filthy service station sink and then a tiltup to a fragmented mirror that reveals the disheveled face of Dr. Lloyd Craig, sets the tone for the entire film." Whew. Sure makes you itch to see it, doesn't it?
I laid down some broad hints that bore fruit: I got this high quality, large-format book for a birthday present. It's been a constant companion ever since, understand? :-)
