Blu-ray of "The Dam Busters"

I got the European region B Blu-Ray of "The Dam Busters" from 1954. I hadn't seen it in 30 years, and remember it as pretty good movie, but there was something in it that shocked me, for its seemingly inexplicable inappropriateness. Richard Todd stars as the squadron commander who trains to lead a unique RAF bombing mission, and it's a true story. The first time he's introduced to us, he's returning from a sortee, and getting out of the plane, he's greeted by his adoring black labrador named-now get this-the dog's name is Ni**er-I kid you not. He said it at least five times, when talking to the dog. It was crazy. The American version has it revoiced (so I read at IMDB) as "Trigger." I was so shocked, it took me out of the movie like I was shot out of a cannon. Has anyone seen this version of the film, and experienced the same shock?
