It's not their style to do a sequel. Too contrived and predictable. And no one else could even attempt it.
Maude's baby was to have nothing to do with the Dude. Maude just needed a non-gay man to get herself pregnant, and the Dude was the only one she knew.
As the stranger says at the end: "The Dude abides. I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there, the Dude, takin' her easy for all us sinners. Shoosh. I sure hope he makes the finals. Welp, that about does her, wraps her all up."
