Huey's legacy? That's a tough one. For the masses, I believe he's held in very high regard. But not so for those who've done even a modicum of research on the bastard. He ran the State for his own self, fambly, and cronies. If something positive got done that benefitted the citizens, then so be it. But that usually would have been a side effect of his wheelin and dealin.
I know you know a little bit about leasing lands for O&G exlporation. Texaco leased over a million acres in backroom deals under Huey and later his protegee OK Allen. The bonus/acre was negligible, even by the standards of the time. The State received a 1/8 royalty (common at the time) and his fambly and cronies got a 1/8th override. The lands went to Texaco thru a company some of his cronies ran called Win or Lose Oil Corporation. Texaco's center of domestic wealth in the 40's forward came from these lands. If you really want to get sick Google Win or Lose Oil Corp+W.T. Burton. His fambly and cronies received hundreds and hundreds of millions of $$booley$$.
Edwin Edwards is a punk who'll never see elected office again. Jindhal will win a new term next month. When the next election comes around Shiny will be fucking dead I hope. If not, he'll be closer to 90 than 80.
