story essentially is unchanged. And Kurt is a dynamic hero far beyond the feminine stand-in that is kind of the heroine of the remake (prequel? not on your life.... it's identically plotted, for chrissakes!). That's one of the problems with this film, no standout characters, including in the lead--- the woman isn't the center until the very end and her personality isn't clearly defined, a la Kurt's in the '82 film. In this one, the guys at the remote site are Norwegians. Like some poor war films, the guys aren't individualized. They're all bearded, given no personality defining scenes.
At some point, will Hollywood just stop making remakes that flounder? What a singular lack of imagination on the part of writers, producers. Pathetic effort.
