1945 Philippines front, and things are only getting from bad to worse for the retreating decimated Japanese forces. With no food left and no leadership, every man for himself in this the most anti-war War movie I ever saw. When things turn desperate, very little of humanity remains I am surprised Japanese didn't lynch the director Kon Ichikawa in this 1959 brutal classic.
