That the original theme was that a lot of alcohol was involved, Natalie was getting more than a little intimate with Christopher Walken. A "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" type scene followed in which Wagner felt angry and belittled.
Whether Wagner pitched her off or she fell or went herself will probably never be known, maybe Wagner doesn't exactly remember, either, due to the alcohol.
When the lawyers and publicists gained control, all the stories stopped and the "accident" version emerged.
