with astonishing shots of Mongol tribes and the steppes--- and all of it in service of a ripping good story about a young plainsman who, through bravery and luck, is elevated by the Soviets into the position of Mongol leader. But, he is not as malleable as the authorities would like.
Yes, it has some obvious propaganda, but some of the scenes of battle, of an execution, and of a surgeon working on the hero, are MORE realistic than anything you'll see in this era. Suspend your disbelief a few minutes and you'll be transported into a fascinating world.
