'Shame': An emotional trainwreck caught on film . . . .

It took real nuts to be the lead in this over-exposing, self conscious look at a sex addict with sister issues. We see that Fassbender does indeed have the nuts for this role.
I'm torn over the accolades this film has received. I often feel when an actor "goes beyond the call" in a film critics shower it with praise for having to nuts to go somewhere ordinary film doesn't go. Was he really 'best actor' for this performance..not sure, but if conveying intensity and anger are qualifiers then I suppose so. Even cute-to-death Mulligan showed her stones for baring it all with a less than Hollywood body and for performing a song with a very untalented voice.
The film did illuminate the compulsive nature of sexual addiction with the computer porn and masturbation at work. Fassbender's self loathing also became an underlying emotion for his apparently inability to stop his ways. All of this further compounded by a dependent sister for which Fassbender had conflicted emotions and desires that sets one to wonder what went on between them in younger years.
The NC-17 explains why we didn't get this in 'family land' and I was lucky enough to get it on he NF release date. This film is not for everybody just the bold and brave. It left me in an almost queasy state.
