A very effective film, one that never would have left Spain under the Franco regime
(Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!) if it even managed to get made then.
NOT a pretty portrait of Barcelona or life there (the life we're not meant to see, that exists everywhere), but not totally devoid
of the little touches of life that can be pretty, even fleetingly beautiful.
But man, SO much heartbreak in that film...
Bardem is such a gem!!
