TCM was running an all prison movie theme today and I ran across this that I had not seen from 1962. A great cast with Rod Steiger as "Tiptoes" the guard, Ray Walston, Vincent Price, Broderick Crawford, Jack Albertson, Sammy Davis Jr. , Ben Gazzara and the beauty Carmen Phillips whose last film was Easy Rider at age 32 as Bens wife. And the great Timothy Carey as "Nick". You gotta see this guy!

Semi-spoiler (divulged within the first 10 minutes)

The story is of Bens character Resko who gets his death sentence commuted to life. Sammy is his cellmate "Wino". This for me is one of those post Noir hip-cool, black and white, tough themed, jazz sound-tracked movies of the late 50's and early 60's for which I have a sweet spot. Movies like Garment Jungle, The Pawnbroker and so on. It's not even half over but I had to come and post on it. It's exuding so much cool I had to move across the room to write this............
