'Iron Sky': A cult film before its release!

Posted by mr grits on November 29, 2012 at 19:24:48:

There was a lot of buzz and teasers released for 'Iron Sky' in order to get funding before it was actually finished. It is the loving work of a couple of Finns who had done a similar satire of 'Star Wars' a couple of years earlier.

The trailer explains the plot: Nazis come from the moon to kick decadent ass here on earth.

This film is easily 80% CGI and due to the skimpy budget some CGI is good but most about gaming quality. But that isn't the real object...it's about the silly fantasy of Kruats fleeing to the Moon at the end of WW2.

The script pulls out all the stops for satirizing everything. We have a black astronaut captured and turned white. Sarah Palin in the WH. The future Fuhrer so wooden and stereotyped it hurts. Udo Keir playing the reigning Moon Fuhrer. German flying disks that crank and sound like air-cooled Beetles, etc. The list is endless.

So is it fun? Maybe. You really have to be into that kind of film or hooked by the promotional teasers that came long before it. As one of the creators said: "We had a 100 million dollar movie to make with nothing." They did exceptionally well for what they had but it's not Hollywood.

Proceed with caution if you have no inner geek. (NF disk only)
