'Beautiful Creatures': A near mockumentary of the romantic gothic South. . . .

Housekeeping: Poor Emmy Rossum just didn't get enough screen time for my lecherous tastes. She tarts up quite nicely.
Gatlin, South Carolina is the sleepy home to a nest of "Casters" living in a decaying manse just outside the town. There Lena lives with her uncle Macon (Jeremy Irons) awaiting her dreaded 16th birthday which is a "claiming day" for all women Casters. She is under a curse which prevents her from committing to the advances of a fellow high school junior, Ethan.
This film is a beaut to look at and the CGI is really good in the fantasy sequences. The plot is teen romance but the adult clean up hitters are Irons, Emma Thompson (waaay over the top), and Viola Davis. Just enough horsepower to make it tolerable to adults chaperoning their romance-struck teen daughters. Irons, with a somewhat odd Southern accent, has the best lines that will eventually fuel the minds of South bashers everywhere.
Yup, kind of for teens of all ages...if you don't get caught. If drafted to chaperone there are worse things to sit through.
Good cable movie.
