What's wrong w/American films? See, "A Hijacking," about a ship hijacking by Somali pirates, and then

compare it to "Captain Phillips."
One strains and struggles to make an adventure and heroism epic about a bunch of rag-tag fishermen-turned-pirates going up against the world's richest countries and their protectors, the most elite killers on the planet.
The other? It details a true event in a true fashion, not needing to resort to trite Hollywood melodramatic cliches, centering on the all-too-real tragedies that result when corporate profits rub up against human lives. No heroic posturing. No false notes as a star is made preposterously to stand up to an armed and desperate pirate--- just a story of men trying to survive, muddling through the hand the deadly situation has dealt them.
"A Hijacking" isn't just great filmmaking, it has a magnificent performance by the lead, a chubby actor portraying a lowly cook that finds himself thrust into a commanding position.
