It's always done tastefully and gracefully

Every year at this time TCM does a segment called TCM Remembers. It's a video chronicle that honors those in film that passed away during the year. It always has an impressive piece of music backing it and this year is no exception.

Over the years it has expanded in size to include those both behind the camera as well as in front. The past couple of years it has also been very inclusive of those from foreign film.

TCM is expanding too showing more recent and foreign films. They had "Carnal Knowledge" on uncut late last night. A great film and character study by Mike Nichols with a great cast. Nicholson was perfect both in and for his role. You must see it if you have not.

TCM also has been showing a series called "The Story of Film" for a few months now. A huge 15 part series that covers film from the silent beginning to today done by Irish film critic and writer Mark Cousins. It's well worth seeing.

TCM has been making efforts to draw a younger crowd with things like this and their TCM Underground and Essentials Junior. They have added Ben Mankiewicz and Bill Hader as presenters. As part of their late night TCM Underground they'll show "The Incubus" tonight. Last weekend they had two cheesy 60's LSD flicks: Blue Sunshine and The Big Cube with Lana Turner of all people. Lots of laughs.
