'American Hustle': "Some of this actually happened"

Posted by Billy Wonka on December 20, 2013 at 14:30:48:

Nice way to start a movie. Hustle is one of the longest roller coaster rides you will ever want to take. Enjoyable, compelling, but not something you would do twice in the same month.

The girls win this one hands down. Adams gives a compelling and dramatic performance of a con woman who hooks up with Bale in order to form a "dynamic duo" con team while Lawrence gives a soulful yet humorous performance as Bale's wife who is never happy and always full of drama. The guys just can't touch these two.

The characters are well drawn but Renner actually had me feeling "poor guy" as the seemingly hapless mayor struggling to make Atlantic City happen. Bale is convincing as the world-weary con master while Cooper is a bit ambitious with his almost over-the-top performance of an FBI agent trying desperately to make a name for himself. One of my all-time screen heroes makes an uncredited appearance doing what he has always done best.

This is the best thing I've seen Lawrence do. I wonder if the Academy is going to want to see her again?

Well, this isn't a Christmas movie but it is definitely one of this year's "must sees". Have fun and no bladder busters...it's a long one.
