it is a long one, maybe a touch too long but that is a minor quibble, I enjoyed it very much

and one of the few times I liked Bale. Actually I think most of the actors were in new territory (which they handled well) and I agree Cooper was a bit much.

I was not sure where the film was headed for a while but it gelled nicely at the end.
