When I was in college I had a job with the State Dept of Revenue, basically filing tax returns. As I was an accounting major I often reviewed the partnership returns which were set up like an income statement. Even then, back in the 60s when the largest popcorn was under a buck, the majority of gross incomes from theater operators was from concessions. (3 theater partnerships in town that owned all the theaters)
