For me, it's the build up that's scary. After the "reveal" the creepy factor usually diminishes

Movies that come to mind that kept the suspense alive to the end:
Alien(s), Mama, The Omen (original), The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, the tv movie Salem's Lot directed by Tobe Hooper (still one of the best vampire movies), Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity (that one really pushed my scary buttons), Pan's Labyrinth...................
