RE: after viewing the trailer.....

Posted by Mark Man on June 18, 2015 at 18:24:05:

I have seen the Red Planet and Mission to Mars...never really liked either...

I listened to an 1 hour interview with the author of book Andy Weir. This is all about the science, no "aliens" here...Matt Damon is the Martian...

Mr. Weir is computer programmer with a love of NASA, Space and Science in general...the earths orbit, Mars elliptical orbit and matching it with a space ships trajectory is a huge problem that needs to be resolved to attempt a rescue. He created a computer program with a calendar to make sure it all worked...This is not Gravity, where the Hubbell, ISS and the Chinese Space Station all JUST happen to line up...His premise is 30 to 50 years in the future...

One of the big issues was a space suit that did not take two people to put on and more freedom of movement...that being one of the Major FI elements...

He did not consult NASA or JPL during the writing of the book, but they all have given him their blessing after they read the book...and wanted to be a part of the movie...(the book started as Serial Web series one chapter at a time. Science people would chime in if he did not have the Chemistry, Electronics or any of the Science not quite right and he would go back and make corrections)

Once again Ridely's sets look damn good...I really like the cast...

The original release date was late November, it is now scheduled for first weekend in October...

Thanks
Mark
