'Black Mass': This year's Oscar magnet . . . .

Posted by Billy Wonka on September 18, 2015 at 13:49:08:

Blood's thicker than law enforcement, particularly in Southie. This inspired action-bio shows us a Whitey Bulger that is a clinical psychopath who doesn't let anything get in his way. If it does he either beats it to hamburger or kills it.

This film is terrific because the focus is on the story NOT the star power that was hired to portray it. Great balance between the two. All the characters were most excellent and Depp took his method acting to its pinnacle. He was Whitie Bulger: malevolent, menacing, murderous. Not a moment when those wheels weren't spinning behind those glassy eyes. I believe Depp was wearing special contacts to give him a somewhat cloudy and glassy appearance which enhances his "cold dead killer" persona.

This film is a bit shorter than one would expect especially with the star power on hand. But it is action packed with excellent editing and story telling.

One thing, don't run out as the epilogue shows us how all the main characters ended up and the credits play over shots of the real guys and Southie itself.

Shouldn't miss it.
