to sit through but kind of by the numbers woody. He hits every one of his usual marks but rather half heartedly and done much better in other movies. New York City as the best place? Check but see Manhattan for a full love letter to the city.
I guess it all seemed a bit lazy. Steve Carrell is a great comic actor who has also shown his serious side, here he's just a sort of stock character, not comic, not much of anything. Jessie eisenberg does a sort of 70s woody shtick when he interacts with the prostitute, but this is gone after this scene. I could go on but why pick it apart, it's ok and I'm still a fan but it's no midnight in Paris, not to mention his real classics.
