'My Cousin Rachel': Classic tale, classic film making . . .

Art direction rules this one. Beautifully shot in period places you can almost smell the musty atmosphere. The Brits have "detail" in their blood it seems.
Sam Clafln was raised by an adult cousin after his parents died. When Phillip was nearly an adult his guardian (Ambrose) fell ill and went to Italy for the sun and air. There Ambrose met a lovely young woman (Weisz) who cared for him and married him. As a result of this union, Ambrose died. After receiving disturbing letters from Ambrose, Phillip decides to confront her for the murder of Ambrose. Missing her in Italy, she appears at the manor to engage Phillip.
After arriving at the manor the story accelerates quickly, too quickly. He transcends from vicious hate to giving her all his property as he becomes a moon-struck puppy. The film seems to suffer from a rushed narrative and Sam Clafin doesn't seem to be enough of a heavyweight to portray the role. Despite this, this is not the usual Hollywood dreck and may be worth a trip the to the cinema. It's a date night type of thing.
