Both good films, but I think you hit on it. TRL left a deeper emotional mark on me than did SPR. I remember the blunt trauma of the first 20 mins of SPR, but after that it was just another WW II movie. TRL takes the viewer into all sorts of dark places, and the craziness of war and what it does to the men caught up in it.
